Have you ever stumbled across the issue that your Nintendo Switch won't turn on when you crave to play games like "Zelda: Breath of the Wild" or "Super Smash Bros Ultimate." It can be quite annoying and frustrating. Yet not to worry. In this post, we will walk you through how to troubleshoot this problem smoothly.

Why Your Nintendo Switch Console Won't Turn on

Here are several common reasons that may leave your Nintendo Switch not working.

  • Empty battery: Your battery might be dead, yet you might not even notice it.
  • Charging Cord Problems: Your charging cord may be the culprit that yields the result that your console won't turn on.
  • Console damage: It's natural that your Switch will refuse to turn on if it gets damaged.
  • Software issues - Your console power problem may also stem from the software issue.

How to Fix it When Your Nintendo Switch Console Won't Turn on

Method 1: Turn on Your Nintendo Switch Manually

If your Switch has the power on issue, chances are the battery of your Joy-Con(controller you use to turn on your console) has been drained. In this case, you can settle the problem by undocking your Switch, switching it on manually, and placing it back in the dock again.

Method 2: Fully Charge Your Nintendo Switch

Your Nintendo Switch power issue may simply result from a dead battery. So please make sure your console is fully charged before you declare this to be a hardware issue. It may seem absurd, yet chances are you didn't plug the cable in the correct way.
Place it in the dock and charge it for at least 30 minutes before turning it on again. The green light on the lower left of the dock will turn on if your Switch is successfully charging. If not, there might be some issues with your dock.

Note: It will cost more time to properly charge the console if your charging cord is not officially produced by Nintendo.

Method 3: Check your HDMI input.

There is also a chance that you have mistakenly switched to the wrong HDMI input if your Nintendo console fails to turn on. This situation may arise if you accidentally bump or drop your remote. If this is your case, cycle through your HDMI channels to ensure that you're on the right one.

Method 4: Check for Charging Cord Problems

As with loads of portable consoles, the Nintendo Switch is no stranger to problems with the power cable. Your charging cord will definitely degrade over time as much as you have been careful enough. Therefore you'd better have a double-check for exposes, dirt or frayed wires, a bent adapter, or bent pins to ensure that it is not damaged.
Using an official and original Nintendo charging cable is also important as off-brand cables may damage your console in the long run, undermining its battery life.

Method 5: Perform a soft reset.

1. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.

2. Release the Power button.
